In premarket, Tesla shares dipped 1.79% at US$350.50.
The island’s governor responded to Mr Musk with the message: “Let’s talk”. Goldman Sachs reaffirmed is sell rating and noted that Tesla’s future fortunes are directly related to the company’s ability to hit its production deadlines on the Model 3. Making Puerto Rico a green energy haven is thus a matter of political will, not financial capacity.
The company’s financials indicate that operating loss increased sharply in Q4 2016, and has remained elevated throughout 2017, despite a small dip in Q2 2017.
Tesla has already succeeded with its solar projects in Hawaii and American Samoa.
But he has also braced for “production hell”, as he told Tesla employees who assembled at the factory plant in Fremont this summer to launch the Model 3.
