Qualcomm announces new Snapdragon 636 processor for mid-range smartphones

The highlight of the Snapdragon 636 processor is support for thte extra-tall FHD+ resolution (about 2,160 x 1,080) screen. The new Snapdragon 636 chipset is 40 percent faster than the previous Snapdragon 660. For now, the only smartphone in existence that can take advantage of this spectrum is none other than the LG V30.

At present only T-Mobile in the United States is using this part of the band so it’s not worth dwelling on right now, but it could open the door to more devices being able to take it on. For the very same reason, Qualcomm has introduced this new chipset.

The chipset can support up to 24MP cameras along with Zooming and autofocussing capabilities. It is a successor to the Snapdragon 630 which started to feature in some devices just yet. It is built on ARM Cortex technology with independent efficiency and power clusters, each created to optimize for a unique user experience. The chipset manufacturer has also announced a new 5G smartphone reference design which will be used to test such 5G modems in the future. Best of all, all of this in a smartphone that supports 4K display. Additionally, it features advanced Snapdragon X12 LTE modem, enabling peak download speeds of 600 Mbps. Both SIM cards can support LTE with next-gen Calling Service.

Qualcomm had announced two new mobile platforms – Snapdragon 630 and Snapdragon 660 – a few months ago. “We believe our unique expertise and capabilities are well aligned in the commercialization of 5G by delivering the next generation of high performance mobile broadband and IoT solutions”. The phones will carry affordable price tags for everyone.

But that’s not the end of it. Qualcomm, which is hosting its annual 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong this week, also announced a new mobile platform, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636, created to provide improvements to device performance, enhanced gaming and display technology support compared to the Snapdragon 630 Mobile Platform.

The Snapdragon 636 has support for Bluetooth 5.0. This chipset will redefine how mid-ranged phones are designed.
