Sheriff: Man fatally shoots defendant waiting outside Mississippi courthouse
The suspect fired one shot with a semiautomatic handgun, Tucker said, and the man was hit in the chest and died at the scene. She told News 8’s sister station WJTV that about five minutes after he left the house, Brown called her to say he had been shot.
An official has identified the victim in a fatal shooting outside a Mississippi courthouse.
He said the victim was not cooperating with law enforcement and was expected to reject a plea deal at Monday’s status conference.
Kendrick Brown was shot at point-blank range outside the Madison County Courthouse complex in Canton, about 30 miles north of Jackson, the state capital, authorities and Brown family members said.
A suspect has been arrested and is in custody in the county jail. Brown’s trial was set to begin later this month.
There was a heavy police presence at the courthouse, with 15 police vehicles at the red-brick criminal courthouse for Madison County in Canton.
A defendant has been shot dead outside a court in Mississippi.
The victim’s name has not been released.
The DA says the victim was facing drug charges based on an arrest by the Madison County Narcotics division.
