Christmas Tree Shortage Hits Northwest Arkansas

Coan also says the wholesale price of trees from the Northwest went up almost 50 percent this year due to the shortages.
“A lot of people want something that’s big, bushy and deluxe, but as a general trend, we do want them slimmer and we try to accommodate that”.
Ensors said since Christmas trees take anywhere between seven to nine years to mature, the shortage did not start to kick in until now.
Pendley said they sold out previous year by December 16 so you may not have long to go grab a tree.
For him and his family at Holloway’s Christmas Tree Farm in Nipomo, It’s all about making memories.
“Next years trees are going to be a little bit shorter because we had to replant some and they didn’t have as much time to grow”, Howell said.
“Yes, usually about an hour”, answered Tanya Muldoon, when asked how long it takes for the family to find the flawless tree.
The shortage is causing prices of Christmas trees to increase.
“We saw it with a handsaw and all decorate it together”. Look for tree stand models that hold lots of water; you’ll spend less time refilling the water pan throughout the festive season. Similarly, trees with shorter needles are easier to decorate than others, as they offer more space between branches and have stronger stems to hold heavier ornaments. And there is a vast range depending on size, features and quality. “Our trees are always fresh”.

Sunday was the last day of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, usually the busiest three days of the live-tree-cutting season.
“I think it’s great for people to shop local, and I love meeting all the customers that come out to get a tree during the holiday season”.
