I want to meet my husband, says Hadiya

Hadiya arrived in Salem from Coimbatore under tight security by Kerala Police, a day after Supreme Court ordered her release from parents’ custody. The next hearing in the case will be held in the third week of January.

The bench, also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, had directed the college and the university to re-admit Hadiya and grant her hostel facilities.

The only logical argument you will ever get to her in attempt to murder Hadiya’s fundamental rights is that her husband is recruiting for the Islamic State. “I think they will allow”, she told reporters.

With her head covered in red scarf, 24 year old Hadiya had to wait for about two hours before bench made a decision to interact with her.

Hadiya’s marriage is being investigated by the NIA or National Investigation Agency after her father alleged that she is one of many vulnerable young Hindu women being recruited by terror groups like ISIS through “love jihad” or marriage.

Prior to which, it is imperative to note that she had filed an affidavit with an Islamic study centre in Kozhikode stating that she wanted to convert to Islam and faced no coercion in doing so. “My whole fight is to block an extremist’s entry into my family”, he said. The SC had allowed the woman to stay in Kerala House in Delhi during her stay in the national capital to appear before the apex court.

The court asked her to re-join the Sivaraj Homeopathy Medical College in Salem, where she was studying before she married Jahan.

Suspecting his daughter to be a victim of “love jihad”, her father Asokan K.M. approached the High Court seeking nullification of the marriage, which the court conceded. The court directed the Kerala Police to provide security to Hadiya and ensure that she arrived at Salem as soon as possible.

Hadiya was with her parents for nearly six months after the Kerala High Court annulled her “nikah” with Shafin. Hadiya, a Hindu by birth, had converted to Islam several months before her marriage.

In a YouTube video, Hadiya had explained why she embraced Islam & dispelled the notion that she had been forced to do it before her marriage to Shafin Jahan. However, he said that the meeting would take place only with his permission.

Justice RV Ravindran, a retired judge of the apex court, is supervising the investigation.

The much publicised case of 25-year-old Hadiya (formerly Akhila) and Shafin Jaan of Kerala saw some positive progress today.

Before taking a flight to Delhi, Hadiya shouted to reporters at the Kochi airport, “I have not been forcefully converted…” In the meantime, Hadiya registered herself on matrimonial website waytonikah.com, with the help of her caretaker, Sainaba, president of the women’s wing of the Popular Front of India. In her testimony, Hadiya had expressed her desire to live with her husband, Shafin Jahan. The Kerala high court granted both.
