Warm today, widespread rain headed to central NC tonight
Temperatures will dip into the low to mid 30’s in the valley tomorrow morning, with teens to 20’s in the mountains. It may rain in the late afternoon. Cold rain will continue through Thursday.
Rain?: New rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half of an inch possible Tuesday.
Saturday will be partly sunny after a lingering shower or sprinkle early in the morning. Once the cold front passes, winds will flip around to the northwest and the air will dry out. The mercury will dip into the 20s Sunday night under a mainly clear, moonlit sky.
Tuesday: Cloudy with cold front by middle of the day. The temperature profile of the atmosphere early Friday could be borderline cold enough to support a few wet snowflakes mixing in with the showers.
Strong winds, heavy rain and today’s high temperatures (as well as tomorrow’s high temperatures) occur overnight. It’s still not answerable for at least a couple more days.

Tuesday: Thickening clouds and milder.
Today’s National Weather Service forecast: Rain before 4 p.m., then a 100 percent chance of showers between 4 and 5 p.m., then rain likely after 5 p.m.
There will be a very high fire danger this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Wednesday: 40% chance for rain showers, high only near 45. After morning temps in the 40s, temperatures will drop into the 30s by afternoon providing the first signal of the big pattern change I was telling you about.
It will be cooler on Wednesday with highs in the mid 50s. We will see plenty of sunshine today with a few clouds mixing in at times.
Tuesday will become increasingly cloudy and milder. Highs will be in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees.
