Facebook will begin demoting ‘engagement bait’ in your News Feed

“We will begin implementing stricter demotions for Pages that systematically and repeatedly use engagement bait to artificially gain reach in News Feed”, Henry Silverman, Operations Integrity Specialist at Facebook, wrote in his blog post.
Beginning this week, the social media juggernaut will start demoting “engagement bait” posts in News Feed. But there may be times when you just need a break from someone in your network, but you don’t necessarily want to ignore them forever.
A considerable measure of poop gets shared on Facebook, yet coming soon the volume might be somewhat less after Facebook made a move to punish content that boldly asks individuals for engagement.
Facebook stresses that legitimate posts asking for help, advice, recommendations, donations for a good cause, etc. won’t be impacted by the update.
On December 18, the online networking stage declared that posts that utilization “engagement bait” will be seen less regularly in the news feed, because of a new machine learning algorithm.
Facebook has recently launched a “snooze” feature that will allow users to mute a person’s posts for up to 30 days.
How much time do marketers have to change their ways? In an effort to increase exposure and visibility, many pages will post low-quality content with sensationalist headlines, urging users to click or share in hopes of expanding the reach of their page. As you’d expect, serial offenders will be hit hardest.
The function will be rolled out to all Facebook users this week. Posts that request likes, shares, tags, and comments will all be set further down in the news feed by the new algorithms. You can find this new feature via the top-right drop-down menu on a post.
