Portland donor drops gold bar into Salvation Army kettle

Helping the Salvation Army were “elves” that assisted families picking up toys.

If you’d like to donate money or items you can go to the Salvation Army Headquarters on South Washington in Bismarck. The toy pile is described as “massive”. The Salvation Army relies on direct contributions and is not funded by the government or the United Way.

With five days left in the campaign, which ends Saturday, and the fundraising effort sitting at about 80 percent of its goal, local Salvation Army officials hope to reach that mark.

The combined goal of the kettle and mail-in campaign is $460,000, which helps the Salvation Army provide a variety of programs throughout the year for those in need from food banks to housing assistance.

But those goals have been a little more hard to meet in recent years.

Ferreira remains hopeful people will take this message to heart. “We have a goal to make this a bigger year than last year”.

The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign enters its final week with an uncertain outcome that largely depends on the severity of the winter weather in the lead up to Christmas Day.

The kettles were stolen Thursday, Dec. 14, and Friday, Dec. 15, from in front of the Neiman Marcus on North Michigan Avenue while the bell ringer was taking a bathroom break. Rebecca felt that providing her children with gifts for Christmas might help them settle in better in their new home and further their journey of healing together.
