Tuesday forecast: wet weather sticking around, high above 60

There is a storm system that will mainly affect areas down near the Oklahoma and Arkansas area but some of the moisture may spread to the northwest and get as far as Emporia or Burlington.

Monday, rain coverage is expected to continue until around midnight with cloudy skies lingering most of the day.

The showers will taper off Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Clouds will increase with a few spotty rain showers possible. Rain showers may switch back to some light snow Friday night and then a few snow showers coming in for Christmas Weekend.

Friday shifts to mostly cloudy skies, but with warmer temperatures as highs range in the middle to upper 50s. Wednesday, even with the rain, will climb to about 64. Plan for a morning start on Wednesday in the 60s with afternoon highs again in the mid to upper 70s. The rain risk will be 30 percent.

Thursday will be dry but much cooler with highs only reaching near 50 in most spots with some sunshine. Rain will be likely through a good portion of the day. Set Friday’s rain chances at about 50/50 for the day.

As well as today’s forecast, a preliminary Christmas forecast was released.

SATURDAY: Scattered rain showers and chilly temperatures develop, with a high of 42 degrees. Highs could be to or above 70 ahead of the well advertised Arctic front that arrives Thursday evening. While confidence is high regarding the cold blast by the weekend, there is still uncertainty on whether we will see snow on Christmas Eve.

There might be just enough cold air in place to bring some snow or a wintry mix to parts of the state, especially inland areas. I do not believe snow chances will linger into the backside of a front.

The bottom line is nobody, and I mean nobody, knows what is going to happen on Christmas Day at this time. It’s the warmest day we’ve seen since December 6th, nearly two weeks ago, but unfortunately it’s not going to last.
