White Christmas unlikely for Harrisburg, but snow could be around the corner

Highs will only be in the low 20s. Even away from the rain areas; however, expect some gusty winds.

BoyleSports have pushed out the odds of snow on Christmas Day at Dublin airport to 13/2 from 3/1. Temperatures will cool into the 30’s on Tuesday before returning to the 40’s and low 50’s for the rest of the week. Temperatures will continue to trend below-normal, with highs in the mid and upper 40s. South wind around 7 miles per hour will become northeast after midnight. But you still need to have an adequate supply of windshield washer fluid.

Three to 5 inches of snow could fall across most of Upstate New York, with a few more inches along lakes Erie and Ontario.

Rain will turn to snow as temperatures turn colder through the day. It’s a fast moving system, but that snow could be steady to locally heavier early in the morning, especially inland.

That said, for midstaters pining for it, snow could be around the corner: The National Weather Service is predicting a chance of snow on Thursday night and Friday for Harrisburg next week.

Saturday night, look for patchy blowing snow under mostly cloudy skies that will gradually become clear.

Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches, with localized amounts up to 8 inches, are expected. The service predicts freezing rain could mix with snow, leading to icy roads and sidewalks. “Highs of 10 to 12 C., in blustery southwesterly winds”. Northwest wind 7 to 11 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 26 miles per hour. But most of the week is probably just dry and cold. An area of Arctic high pressure will move through during the day bringing lighter winds by Monday night and helping allow temperatures to drop into the 26 to 29 degree range.
