Two Men Killed in High-Speed Wreck Following Police Chase
A single-car accident killed two people early Sunday morning in Cornelius.
Authorities say they were speeding on West Catawba Avenue and refused to stop.
According to police, the driver, Krolikowski, nearly hit a second Cornelius police vehicle near the intersection of Jetton Road and West Catawba Avenue.
Police say that a brief pursuit ended when officers decided to back off and turn off their sirens and lights.
Officers lost sight of the vehicle as it sped away but moments later found it crashed near the intersection of Jetton and Meta roads.
Police identified the victims as Mark Krolikowski of Huntersville, and Jason Monroe of Charlotte. The vehicle was described as fully engulfed in flames.
Cornelius Fire Department responded to put out the flames and the two men were found dead in the vehicle.
Multiple media outlets reported the crash happened shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday in Cornelius.
