Forecast: East Coast ‘bomb cyclone’ affecting flights out of DIA

Travelers should contact their airlines to learn about flight disruptions. More than half the flights scheduled for Thursday at Boston Logan International Airport have been scrubbed, and so have almost half the flights at New York’s LaGuardia Airport. That later jumped to 90 percent.

Spirit and United Airlines, the largest carrier at Newark Airport, are among the airlines waiving fees so passengers can rebook flights for later in the week or next week.

At 5 a.m., the Delta Airlines counter was bustling.

Despite the delay to LaGaurdia and cancellations, the airport in general has been relatively normal, Piccolo said. Its next name is Saturday at Georgia Tech.

Other airports with the most cancellations by that point were Boston Logan with 733; LaGuardia with 696; and Kennedy with 597.

“So we lost two days here, so we’re stranded here for two days”, Bozotti said.

In New York and New Jersey alone, for example, trucks transport a combined 646,000 tons of goods per day, according to 2012 data from the American Transport Research Institute.

If you do have to get connecting flights, make sure you have plenty of time from flight A to flight B in case flight A gets delayed.

However, the board at Bradley already had a lot of red on it.

On Friday, however, Bradley Airport officials said they expect operations to resume.

“The flight was delayed, we sat on the tarmac for about 2 hours, then pushed back to 6 p.m., and then they just announced that the flight was canceled all together”, said a traveler named Dante.

“That’s what usually happens is they can’t get out and they can’t get in”, Haley said. “That’s where I’m at now!”
