Hands on: Android Auto Wireless and Google Assistant double down on convenience
New research has come out that looks at the number of Americans that own a smart speaker along the lines of the Amazon Echo or Google Home devices. The Smart Display has builtin Google Assistant to get things done.
Google traded more than 1 Home smart device each second ever since it began exporting in October previous year, taking the numbers of sales to more than 6 Million, the firm has declared this week.
“We’ll have to see how that works out”, Google’s Scott Huffman, a Google VP, said. Existing Hopper owners could order the new remote for $20.
There has also been a host of new smart cameras on show, many of which boast bigger megapixel lenses and better night vision. LG is playing both sides, in fact. The smart display comes with Assistant inside and an always-listening feature to hear for commands.
The device is named by LG as WK9. The smart home, auto and TV all seemed to have been touched by Amazon or Google.
As presented at the CES convention (), NPR and EDISON RESEARCH survey found continued and rapid increases in ownership of voice-activated smart speakers, and their increasing influence these devices are having on consumer behavior.
The smaller model is expected to cost $200 and the larger one is $250.
Regarding the price we aren’t sure yet but soon will be qupdated.
Lenovo also included a base stand which lets users display the device either horizontally or vertically. JBL has thrown its hat into the ring with Google as they’ve partnered up to make the Link View. The new Lenovo Smart Display sports 8 Inch and 10 Inch sizes.
In terms of features, it’s similar to Lenovo’s offering. JBL wasn’t the only company to announce a speaker like this. Dish did not reveal a specific release date for each of the devices but they did confirm that it will slowly roll out over the course of the year.
With Amazon dominating CES a year ago with Alexa, it seems that Google can no longer ignore Alexa’s growing influence even though Google Assistant is available on phones and tablets.
You’ll be able to see your calendar on the screen, check recipes, watch videos and more. Most significantly they also include intelligence enabling them to discern faces, to set boundaries and perimeters, and to eliminate false alarms and only capture actual events.
Displaying YouTube videos and showing recipes are top selling points for smart displays, said Gummi Hafsteinsson, the Google product director overseeing Assistant. Amazon had a head start over every other tech giant in the market with the launch of its Echo smart speaker in 2014, and Google has been playing catch-up ever since.
