Covington honors Martin Luther King Jr. with parade, program
In 1983, legislation was signed creating a federal holiday on the third Monday in January in observance of Dr. King’s birthday.
In April 1963, as leaders of the civil rights movement stood in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., those words rang out.
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character”.
“Be a light that points the way to peace”, she said.
Twenty-two years ago, the Rev. Olen Arrington Jr., a community leader who died in 2010, inspired the first Kindness Week as a way to unite the community in the celebration of King’s life. Arizona rep. McSally launched her U.S. Senate campaign on Friday in an announcement. But parade organizers say the city pulled out because of threats of a boycott.
“I have a dream that from the honest caring people here in America, there will arise some young people who are committed to helping their communities”, she said.
“On this cherished day, we honor the memory of Reverend King”, Trump said in the video. And hate can not battle hate, she said.
We are, as a country, still a work in progress.
They hope people can come together to make sure everyone is treated with respect. They have to commit themselves to action and fight complacency and inaction. Day is “a day to recognize what it’s taken for us to arrive at this point as well as acknowledge much more work we have to do”.
Blumenthal agreed that times are dark, saying he has “never seen Democracy in such disarray”. Department of Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, FBI Director Christopher Wray and King’s son, Martin Luther King III, delivered remarks at the MLK Jr.
Ulriksen has previously traveled through time with the late King. “I’m going to let it shine”.
