Brady on trash talk: ‘It’s how you play, not what you say’
The Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons in 2017’s Super Bowl LI, earning New England its fifth Super Bowl win.
“You hate Belichick”, they say. He has to be pressured (sacked four times against the Broncos) and you have to slow down the Patriots rushing attack, forcing Brady to throw a bunch. No franchise is flawless, nor is any observer of said franchise. Bell had previously said that he won’t play under the franchise tag for a second consecutive year, but recently reiterated his desire to be back with the team. That’s the definition of opinion.
The Patriots defense is middle of the road when it comes to stopping the run.
Neither of these teams has a Lombardi Trophy resting in their team headquarters despite having storied histories, which should make for a fun NFC title game. I thought Brett Favre was the quarterback for the Vikings? But none of that interferes with me seeing the Big Picture. He’s a really good player. They permitted an average of 21.1 yards per kick return, which ranked 15th, and 7.7 yards per punt return, which ranked 18th.
The Steelers could benefit from better play-calling as they struggled to convert a couple fourth downs in Sunday’s loss to the Jags. And it serves them well. With the league’s No.1 rushing attack and one of the best defenses the league has seen in years, Bortles and the Jaguars just might do the same.
Jacksonville (12-6), of course, has the AFC championship game at New England remaining before even getting to the Super Bowl. It will be important for that trend to continue if Jacksonville is to pull the upset over the defending Super Bowl champions.
The Patriots haven’t made consecutive Super Bowl appearances since 2004 and 2005. They have the AFC’s best defense by a wide margin, ranking second in the National Football League in both yards and points allowed.
The Jaguars had quite the explosive AFC Divisional game last Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers which ended with them winning 45-42. “I don’t know how much we’ll look at those practices and that preseason game; I’m sure we’ll take a look at it, but both teams are very different”.
And he doesn’t just think they’re going to stop there, saying: “We’re going to the Super Bowl and we’re gonna win that bitch!” “We knew we had to keep scoring”. At least he didn’t call Foxboro a shole. The thing is, the second-year cornerback has the ability to back up his words, as he’s already one of the best cover corners in the NFL. It could also be argued that the words were just youthful exuberance bubbling over in the rarified air in which the Jaguars find themselves. Bill Belichick famously read his team the Philadelphia Eagles’ planned parade route before Super Bowl XXXIX.
“The buttoned-down Patriots rarely provide any bulletin-board fodder to opponents, but they’ve been known to use perceived slights as motivation”. They won’t, however, respond publicly in kind. Obviously, it is not ideal to challenge A.J. Bouye or Jalen Ramsey if you do not have an obvious window, but Rob Gronkowski over the middle of the field, as well as isolating James White, Dion Lewis, and Rex Burkhead on linebackers should give the Patriots enough room to move the ball.
