Chicago a finalist for Amazon’s HQ2
Metro Phoenix drafted a mysterious package of incentives.
The e-commerce giant released Thursday its short list of 20 candidates for the facility – out of 238 cities that applied previous year – which is expected to house up to 50,000 employees. The company received proposals from 238 locations, including from smaller markets like Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Memphis, Tennessee.
Minnesota was one of 238 locations to submit a bid last fall for the online retail giant’s second headquarters.
Toronto Global, the group that compiled the city’s bid, said it will speak to Amazon in the coming days to find out what the next phase of the bidding process will look like. The CEO of Sun Corridor practically begged the tech gods to turn their eye to Tucson.
“We ought to have a Team Canada approach here, and so I think you have to make sure that the city, the province and the federal government are working hand-in-hand together to say, ‘Let’s have a win for Canada'”. The company said it can’t accept gifts.
“We have what Amazon is looking for, but keep in mind Jeff Bezos knows how high taxes are”, said Rauner. Sites in Mesa and Tempe were possibilities, along with the Park Central Mall in Phoenix.
San Antonio didn’t submit a bid.

“We’re able to attract the best and the brightest from around the world”, Mr.
If Amazon chooses a USA city, it would be a political win but could be more hard for it to find qualified workers given stricter immigration rules, said Stephen Cryne, CEO of the Canadian Employee Relocation Council.
Premier Kathleen Wynne issued a statement outlining Ontario’s commitment to increasing the number of STEM graduates by 25 per cent and graduating 1,000 applied masters in artificial intelligence within five years.
David Barr, president of Lancaster-based digital solutions agency Williams Forrest, said the impact could be “immeasurable”, resulting in “all manner of talented resources relocating to the region as well as the potential for new business relationships between Amazon and local companies”. “It created a greater awareness in the people in our own community that there is this large undeveloped but zoned asset in southwest Lucas County”.
But according to Joochul Kim, an associate professor at ASU’s School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning, said it’s not that simple. Boston’s offer includes $75 million for affordable housing for Amazon employees and others. “And if it’s just about talent, I really like our chances, but I think there’s some other considerations here”.

Realizing the city had no shot at landing the headquarters, civic leaders mounted a “Love, Little Rock” campaign with a website, LoveLittleRock.org, and a social media campaign focusing on site-location consulting firms in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas and NY, touting the city’s positives to other potential corporate suitors.
