Victim impact statements continue as anger boils during Nassar sentencing
Disgraced former sports doctor Larry Nassar broke down as a victim spoke during the fourth day of his sentencing for sexually assaulting young gymnasts and others under the guise of medical treatment.
Six-time Olympic medallist Aly Raisman, 23, branded sex fiend Larry Nassar “pathetic” as she delivered a remarkable victim impact statement in Michigan, US.
Wieber also took to Instagram to open up about her abuse.
A prosecutor read a statement from McKayla Maroney, who won gold and silver medals at the 2012 Olympics. Well, you know what, Larry?
Because of my shin I couldn’t train without being in extreme pain and it effected the number of routines I could do to prepare for the competition and ultimately it made me feel less prepared than I should have been.
She continued: “But even though I am a victim, I do not and will not live my life as one”. “Both whom I thought were supposed to be on my side”. “I hope this review will help the survivors and the entire MSU community heal and move forward”, she said in a statement. “How do you sleep at night?”.
USA Gymnastics announced Thursday that it was ending its long relationship with the Karolyi Ranch, where many athletes said the abuse took place. “Thank you to my family, friends, teammates, colleagues and fans who have been supportive of me throughout this process”. According to ABC, Jade was “led by her coaches into believing Nassar… was ‘a miracle worker, who could fix anything.'” Speaking directly to Nassar, Capua said, “You violate the right to be called a doctor”. Nassar was cleared in that case, but given protocols to follow when performing procedures in sensitive areas. “I would cringe at how uncomfortable it felt”, Wieber said. I AM DISGUSTED. I am very disappointed, ‘ wrote Raisman.
“I had no idea he was sexually abusing me for his own benefit”, Wieber said.
“Because national team training camps did not allow parents to be present, my mom and dad were unable to observe what Nassar was doing”. She has won six Olympic medals, three of them gold medals; and was the captain of the U.S. team in London and Rio.
Wieber also demanded accountability from USA Gymnastics and the Olympic committee for the crimes. I was not protected and neither were my teammates.
A 2000 Olympian, Jamie Dantzscher, looked at Nassar and said, “How dare you ask any of us for forgiveness”.
This included survivor Melody Posthuma Vanderveen, and most others. People should know that sexual abuse of children is not just happening in Hollywood, in the media and the halls of Congress. Marta Karolyi was the national team training – national team coordinator most recently. He worked for the US women’s team as a volunteer.
Raisman had said on Twitter last week she did not plan to attend Nassar’s sentencing, but she said she chose to do so after watching the proceedings from afar.
Nassar was also sentenced to 60 years behind bars on federal charges after he was found in possession of pornography back in December.
Michigan’s attorney general said his office will conduct a review of Michigan State University’s handling of complaints against Nassar.
At the end of her testimony, the courtroom burst into applause.
“I’m an Olympian”, Wieber said.
“It breaks my heart even more to think that as I work towards my dream of competing in Tokyo 2020, I will have to continually return to the same training facility where I was abused”, Biles wrote. “And our stories are all important”.
