Akshay Kumar Postpones PadMan On Request From Padmaavat Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali
Akshay and Sanjay Leela Bhansali organized for a combined press conference to talk about the release of both films on Friday.
The Supreme Court had, on Thursday, struck down the bans imposed by several states on the controversial movie Padmaavat, clearing the way for its release on January 25. “I wish him all the luck for the release”. Akshay replied by saying that “at the moment the stakes of their film is much more than mine”. While addressing the media, Bhansali thanked the “Rustom” star for moving the release date of his film ahead.
We had earlier reported how the lead actress Deepika Padukone’s “exposed” midriff was termed “unbecoming” for the Rajput Queen and that director Sanjay Leela Bhansali will cover it through computer graphics.
“We are all in agreement on Akshay Sir’s decision”.
Trade Analyst Komal Nahta has tweeted that the film’s release date has been postponed to February 9, 2018. With Padmaavat around, Pad Man would have lost at least 45 percent of its intended viewership. “As far as Pad Man getting postponed is concerned, I think it’s an intelligent business decision”.
Furthermore, it is believed Bhansali did not want to be the one to approach Akshay. “I will give Padmaavat both my theatres”, he beams.
“I am not going to purchase the rights of the film as I am going out of the country on a family holiday on January 24”, a leading film distributor Raj Bansal told PTI. But with these two films coming in, Sonu Ke Tittu Ki Sweety doesn’t stand a chance. “It’s becoming a trend for producers to decide among themselves and settle issues without ego hassles, which is great”, he exults.
When questioned why PadMan couldn’t be released on time and Padmaavat be moved forward, Akshay responded, “They have a reason to release it this time”.
