Trump’s exercise is walking around the White House
US President Donald Trump passed a test for signs of dementia and is in overall excellent health, but needs to shed weight by cutting down on calories, fats and carbohydrates and starting a daily exercise routine, the White House physician has said. Some feel it’s suspiciously coincidental that if Trump weighed just one more pound, his body mass index would be 30, which would push him from overweight to obese on the BMI scale.
That is, at least, what a White House physician said yesterday, after assessing President Trump using the “Montreal Cognitive Assessment” test.
“It’s called genetics. Some people have just great genes”.
‘I’ve always been more of a believer in diet ’cause I’m strong, you know? Most exercise in golf comes from the stroll around the course, yet Trump has said that he prefers to take a golf cart between holes because “I don’t want to spend the time” walking.
Though his doctor said there was no need for such an exam, Trump requested one in hopes of putting to rest questions about his mental fitness to be in office, Jackson said.
Jackson, who has been the lead White House doctor since 2013 and oversaw two of Obama’s physicals, told media members Tuesday that 12 other doctors consulted on Trump’s examination, which lasted more than three hours.
Follow Tess on Twitter. Jackson said Trump has avoided some big heart risks – he’s never smoked and isn’t diabetic – and has no family history of heart problems.
It’s not part of the usual battery of tests given to a president and may reflect an outpouring of coverage and commentary questioning whether Trump is mentally fit for office.
Jackson says that based on the clinical information he has on Trump and his year of observing the president, “I feel very confident that he has a very strong and a very probable possibility of making it completely through his presidency with no medical issues”. It also tests people’s ability to pay attention and think abstractly, which involves finding a link between words.
That’s according to his White House physician, navy doctor Ronny Jackson.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the chief medical correspondent for CNN, repeatedly expressed concern on Wednesday about test results that showed Trump’s coronary calcium score had increased to 133, from 34 in 2009.
Among the medications Trump continues to take since his last physical as a candidate in 2016, according to Jackson, are a statin to lower cholesterol and finasteride to combat male pattern hair loss.
Trump, the doctor said, asked for the cognitive test to answer his critics and attempt to quell questions about his mental abilities.
“He has incredible cardiac fitness at this point in his life and I think a large part of that is due to the fact he has had a life of abstinence from tobacco and alcohol”, Jackson said.
