NCAA opens investigation into Michigan State’s handling of claims against gymnastics doctor
Raisman, co-captain of the US women’s gymnastics squad at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Games, called for an independent investigation into usa gymnastics and Olympic officials who she said had the power to stop Nassar.
“You made me feel so special”, Morales told Nassar in the courtroom Tuesday.
Nassar has admitted to seven counts of criminal sexual conduct related to his treatment of young girls while serving as a doctor for the university and for USA Gymnastics, the national governing organization for the sport.
Nassar is already serving a 60 year sentence for child pornography.
John Geddert, the 2011 USA World Team and 2012 USA Olympic Team head coach, was suspended Monday under a provision in the USA Gymnastics bylaws that allows interim measures to be taken to “to ensure the safety and well-being of the gymnastics community”. He faces a minimum prison term of 25 to 40 years but it could go higher.
Nassar was the team doctor for USA Gymnastics in four different Olympics and has faced sentence hearings throughout the week in a MI courtroom.
The Fierce Five member called out the organization on Twitter for refusing to investigate an August 4 report by The Indianapolis Star, which detailed sexual abuse within USA Gymnastics.
“We notified USA Gymnastics today that we are suspending our sponsorship of the organization until it is re-built and we know that the athletes are in a safe environment”, the company said in a statement obtained by USA Today.

Meanwhile, in Michigan, Nassar’s sentencing hearing continued Monday, raising the number of girls and women who have spoken to almost 100 since last week.
In Michigan, female gymnasts who survived sexual assault and abuse by former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar continue to testify against the doctor in court.
Almost 160 victims have now stepped forward, asking to speak in court. Michigan State University president, Lou Anna Simon, has faced calls to resign over the school’s response to Nassar’s abuse.
She said in the video that it was time for the organization to “start over”.
