Trump says willing to be interviewed by Russian Federation inquiry’s special counsel
US Attorney General Jeff Sessions was questioned last week for several hours by investigators probing possible collusion between Russian Federation and President Donald Trump’s election campaign, the Justice Department confirmed Tuesday.
The news came amid growing indications – including an indictment against Flynn – that Mueller was quickly expanding his investigation into President Donald Trump’s alleged ties to Russian Federation.
Speaking with reporters at the White House before he set out for the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Trump was asked about a potential interview with Mueller. “There’s been no collusion whatsoever”.
“I’m looking forward to it”, he answered.
“If you look at solar and you look at the washing machine companies, that’s really what happened today”.
The president said he’s “not at all concerned” about what Sessions may have told Mueller’s team. “You will always say, she was a bad candidate”.
Trump fired Comey in May 2017 and initially said it was because he mishandled the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.
Politico reported past year that Mr Trump’s cadre of attorneys wanted the President to be interviewed by Mr Mueller, believing that it could help the special counsel finish his investigation faster and dispel the allegations that Mr Trump committed any wrongdoing.
Four indictments have come down so far in the investigation. NBC also reported that former senior campaign aide and White House strategist Steve Bannon is expected to meet with Mr. Mueller’s team by the end of January. The first two were against Paul Manafort and his business associate Rick Gates for money laundering.
Sessions was one of Trump’s earliest and most loyal allies, the first senator to endorse him during the presidential campaign and a key national security adviser during the election effort. Perhaps most significantly, he was involved in Oval Office discussions that led to the firing of FBI Director James Comey last March.
Mr Trump later said he fired Mr Comey over “this Russian Federation thing”. Investigators are assessing if the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation to influence the election in his favour – a claim denied by Trump and Russian Federation. Cobb said, however, that Trump’s remarks were rushed and that the president was not volunteering to testify before a grand jury, the Times reported.
