Democrat denounces President Trump’s tweet as ‘false smears’
On Friday, House Republicans and the White House released to the public a six-page memo that alleged FBI and Justice Department officials politicized the run-up to the collusion investigation into Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.
The committee did not release the Democratic memo last week, with one Republican member saying revisions were needed so the memo would not endanger national security. “I understand why he says things like that, it gins up his base and it may help him politically, but legally it’s of no moment”.
The memo is already available for all House members to view. Democrats have pushed to publish a rebuttal. “Of all the liars in the D.C. swamp, he is the gold medal victor”, Dan Bongino, former Secret Service agent turned right-wing pundit, said on the show shortly before Trump’s tweet was posted.
LUCAS: Well, basically, the president accused Schiff of being one of the biggest liars and leakers in Washington.
“Adam leaves closed committee hearings to illegally leak confidential information”.
Rep. Mike Turner, an Ohio Republican, will also support releasing the Democratic memo, according to his spokeswoman Morgan Rako.
Gowdy said there still needs to be an investigation of the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting in which Donald Trump Jr., Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manfort met with a Russian attorney and others promising “dirt” on Hillary Clinton. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., during a telephone press conference Monday.
President Trump has five days to decide whether to allow the Democratic memo to be released.
Schiff’s comments came shortly before the House Intelligence Committee is expected to vote to release a Democratic memo from Schiff, rebutting claims from the GOP memo released Friday. “There was at that time only one other candidate in the race”. “It is just how democracy works”. We do know that Obama administration hacks like Susan Rice made an extraordinary number of “unmasking” requests during the relevant time period, which allowed them to access the communications of American citizens, including Page and anyone with whom he was in contact. McCarthy writes, “So far, the FBI and Justice Department have provided only cause for grave concern that they gave a federal court unverified, highly unreliable information that was essential to the court’s probable-cause finding, and that they did so without being candid with the court about the biases of the information’s purveyor”.
With public attention focused on questionable conduct at the FBI, some of the Bureau’s employees can’t take the heat.
Separate investigations are underway by special counsel Robert Mueller and the Senate intelligence committee.
Here, Byron thinks the Democrats have a slightly better point, but I don’t buy it.
“What we have witnessed during the first year of the Trump Administration is a determined effort to demolish the separation between politics and the fair administration of justice – an attempt to turn the DOJ’s investigative powers into the personal political tool of the President”.
Steele collected information for American research company Fusion GPS, which was hired by a law firm representing the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign to dig up dirt on Trump during his 2016 election campaign. What’s more, the FISA process requires new information to be presented to the court every 90 days to continue the warrant, as the Page warrant was three times. The memo clearly states that the FBI was investigating George Papadopoulos before the Steele dossier was released.
If the committee voted to release it, the memo would be sent to the White House for declassification as before and President Trump would need to authorize its release.
