Snow to end, cold air is next

Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for most of the area from 9am Monday- 7pm Monday. On Wednesday, a system from the southern states will approach. The Buffalo Niagara region will be on the snowy side of the storm. Early indications indicate snow will fall, but it’s unclear whether there will be a changeover to rain and where that changeover would be. “A few spots south of I-80 may even see closer to 6” of snow. But it looks like round two is coming with the potential a whopper of a storm on Wednesday. A weakening clipper system will pass to the north in the morning.

We’ll then see a break in the showers from this afternoon to mid-Monday afternoon. Temperatures stay chilly tomorrow with highs only in the mid-40s. Northwest wind 7 to 17 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 28 miles per hour.

Snowy conditions are expected to continue throughout the week, with a 20 percent chance of snow Wednesday morning and a 50 percent chance of snow Friday. As the morning progresses, temperatures will start to go above freezing allowing the changeover to rain to occur.

TYPE: All snow for most of the area.

Temperatures are expected to dip again into Wednesday night, with a low of 23 predicted in Harrisburg. Winter weather advisories are issued when light accumulation, less than 2 inches of snow and less than a tenth of an inch of ice, are expected.

Periods of moderate rain are expected.

In the Kansas City area, daytime snowfall could be less than 1 inch, after 4 p.m. It’s too early to talk totals for Thursday morning, but the shovels and plows will be needed!

Sunday’s high reached 2 degrees, according to the weather station at the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport after posting an overnight low of 19 below.
