Kelly’s Job Not in Jeopardy, Trump Has ‘Full Faith’ in Him
Throughout Donald Trump’s campaign and relentlessly chaotic presidency, the single constant presence at his side, outside of his family, has been the 29-year-old former Ralph Lauren model and White House communications director Hope Hicks.
NBC News reported last week that Trump was considering possible replacements for Kelly amid the fallout.
Many White House senior staff members remained stunned by the accusations against Porter, a well-liked and seemingly mild-mannered graduate of Harvard and Oxford. It’s obviously a very tough time for him.
“He says he’s innocent, and I think you have to remember that”, said Trump. “He said very strongly yesterday that he’s innocent”, Trump said.
“He says that General Kelly is doing a great job, and that he has full faith in him, and I think he looks at the full measure of all of us”, she said. “We certainly wish him well”.
“We immediately confronted the staffer, he denied the allegations and he resigned today”, Shah said. He defended Alabama Senate candidate Republican Roy Moore when allegations surfaced that he groped teenage girls when he was in his 30s. On Friday another aide, speechwriter David Sorensen, resigned after his former wife claimed he was violent and emotionally abusive. “It suggests that what we really need to worry about is how these allegations will impact the man who is accused”.
‘That we don’t tolerate at all, ‘ the OMB director answered, adding that in his own career ‘it’s never come up’.
“I think the photographs took everybody by surprise”, Mulvaney said, referencing a photo of one of Porter’s ex-wives with a black eye. McGahn opted at that time to let the FBI complete its investigation into any incidents. But in the case of Porter, it was Kelly’s management of the staff that is in question.
Here’s a look at what the president has said about various misconduct allegations.
Porter’s abrupt departure raised questions about how long it took Trump’s team to act on the accusations.
In November, the White House heard back from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The administration’s number two weighed in from South Korea on the controversy that has engulfed the White House this week, after allegations from Porter’s two ex-wives led to his resignation.
Wallace pointed out that by saying that, Mulvaney made it sound like those discontent with Kelly worked in the West Wing.
“Why would someone like me and many other women be there?”
A White House official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss personnel matters publicly, said Friday that Kelly had not offered to resign.
Rosie O’Donnell is spinning conspiracy theories about the president again because … what else does she honestly have to do?
Others in the White House told the newspaper that Kelly – who was installed in his current post in July to help bring order and stability to the White House – had known of the complaints since October.
There was no sign that a move was imminent, according to the people with knowledge of the conversations.
In a statement provided to NYT through an aide, Mnuchin said he had been “impressed” with Hicks since working with her on the campaign. But John Kelly has not offered his resignation.
“I do agree with @POTUS on one thing he said today, #domesticviolence does destroy lives, literally”, she added.
The Trump administration told the Post it learned of the allegations Thursday night. He also expressed his frustration with both Kelly and Hicks. Trump’s staff secretary called the allegations from his former spouses “outrageous” and “simply false”.
