Mikaela Shiffrin’s PyeongChang wait continues as high winds delay women’s slalom

This will be one of the most star-studded days of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, as American snowboarder Shaun White, alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin and speedskater Heather Bergsma all look to win gold on Wednesday.

“I am pretty sure that soon, we will have a race”, men’s race director Markus Waldner said Monday. Short Track action also includes qualifying in the men’s 1000m and men’s 5000m relay.

On Friday, the rearranged slalom is due to be staged as the men compete in the super-G.

The event, which was originally scheduled to take place at 8:45 p.m. ET (11:45 a.m.in Korea), was delayed an hour before it was postponed to Thursday’s coverage (Friday in Korea).

Shiffrin’s Olympic debut will now be pushed to Thursday for the rescheduled giant slalom. Monday’s wind-hit giant slalom has been rearranged for Thursday.

Wednesday’s postponement means that Shiffrin could now potentially compete on back-to-back-to-back days should she elect to enter in the Super G on Saturday.

U.S. ski star Shiffrin, who became the youngest ever Olympic slalom champion at the age of 18 in Sochi, will have to wait until Wednesday’s for her first bid at gold in South Korea.

He won the combined at the 2015 world championships in Beaver Creek and took the silver medal in last year’s world championships.

“We’ve been through this before in the World Cup quite often”, said USA coach Paul Kristofic.

Because wind could again present problems, Waldner said, three of the downhill’s four jumps were adjusted so skiers wouldn’t fly as high in the air.
