Inside GSMA’s Mobile World Congress 2018
What do you want to see at MWC 2018? The brand new Plus variant has been steadily leaking ever since then. The consumer group is expected to announce other devices, such as a new wearable, on Sunday. Besides these details, not much is known about the Nokia 8 Pro for now. And this year, it’s smartphones.
Also new in the Nokia 8 is 360-degree Ozo audio recording, which we’re sure will also make its way to the Nokia 9.
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is a series of conferences under the auspices of GSM, organized in Barcelona and used as a launch platform for phones, tablets, smartwatches, and other smart terminals. Thanks to a steady stream of leaks, we know pretty much everything about the phone; we even know what some of its accessories, like the DeX Pad, will look like.
Similarities to the iPhone X aside, the ZenFone 5 is expected to come with a Snapdragon 845 chipset, an 18:9 display, 6GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box and dual cameras. Too bad we’re not getting at G7 at MWC this year. But heavyweights like Samsung and HMD Global will hold their unveiling events a day before the MWC starts.
The new smartphone from Nokia will be available in August and September. Samsung has a “reimagined camera” with a super slo-mo feature, an improved low-light photography, and an Animoji-like feature. Mainly because it has already sent invites out to a “flagship devices” launch in Paris, scheduled for late March. It’s rumored to come in three variants: P20, P20 Plus and P20 Lite, with the first two variants sporting a triple (!) 40-megapixel rear camera. “There are some more pre-commercial trials, the focus is about when will 5G arrive and what will it deliver in the next couple years”, Ian Fogg, head of mobile at IHS, told CNBC by phone earlier this week. They can easily state “Ok Google” followed by instructions such as “open camera in Cine video”, “take a picture on a wide angle”, and more.
But analysts warned that many companies will be marketing their products as AI, without actually using any of the technology.
We haven’t seen anything major from BlackBerry and Nokia thus far, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that something isn’t coming.
For more information, see the official site of the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2018. A year later, we’ve yet to see anything almost as revolutionary from the companies as we were expecting, so many are wondering what the future holds for the likes of Nokia and Blackberry. The upcoming phones would have the same 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch OLED screens as last year’s models.
So, will we soon see a Sony Xperia XZ Pro with a 4K edge-to-edge display and dual camera? The MWC officially kicks off on February 26.
In the MWC event, the company is expected to launch Nokia 9 and Android Oreo (Go Edition) based Nokia 1.
