Liverpool Trounces West Ham In Premier League, Moves To Second In Standings
Jurgen Klopp described a near ideal Liverpool performance as a “joy to watch” as Mohamed Salah scored for the sixth straight game in a 4-1 thrashing of West Ham at Anfield on Saturday.
West Ham have benefited on many occasions so far this term in opting for a more defensive-minded approach when facing sides vying for a Champions League finish, claiming points from Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur this year.
“I am really happy with the complete performance, all the individual performances were really, really good today”, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said after the match, according to LFCTV. “They had a hard situation and they sorted it, they are in a good way, so to play a game like we did today is really not [to be taken] for granted”. It looks like this but if Man United wins tomorrow then we were second for a few hours. “The other goals we scored were fantastic football moments”. That is how it is.
However, after Mane had spurned one golden opportunity to get in on the goalscoring action when he shot against the post, the Senegalese rounded off a fine afternoon for Liverpool by diverting Robertson’s square pass into the net 13 minutes from time.
Despite some neat build-up play Liverpool’s only goal in the first half came from a set piece, but that was about to change as the teams emerged for the second period. Do we want to keep the players together? “They are still in their winter break and that makes it very special for them what they achieved against Roma”.
Liverpool added their second six minutes after half-time as Salah benefitted from some determined play by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Hazard’s best goal tally in the league is 16 – which he achieved during the 2016/17 title-winning campaign.
“Flexibility, being fluent, depends on all the players around”.
“He (Salah) is obviously doing well”. Last-ditch defending and an impressive display from Arnautovic delayed it, although their defence was eventually breached by a set-piece when Can headed home Salah’s corner at close range. It was a nice goal.
“When we had problems in one or two moments, we had comebacks in the game and then didn’t suffer or whatever”. Roberto deserved a goal.
The German said: “It was so often that we spoke so positively about Roberto and Mo – and Phil [Coutinho] when he was still here – and the “Fab Four” and now the “Fab Three” if that’s possible”.
