Cold blast from Russia will bring temperatures as low as -5C

The weather system nicknamed as the “beast from the east” is heading our way, bringing with it freezing temperatures and the likelihood of heavy snow.

Meteorologist Charlie Powell said: “The UK is on track for some really cold weather this week”.

“These will also be accompanied by bitterly cold temperatures, and a significant wind chill”.

The AA’s Barry Aldworth says motorists should be preparing already.

“Wednesday and Thursday will probably be the peak days, which are looking the coldest out of any”.

At the moment, it is in force from 4pm on Monday until midnight on Wednesday morning.

SCOTS and the rest of the United Kingdom are set to be blasted with lows of up to -10C as the “Beast of the East” brings an icy arctic spell from Siberia.

Forecasters admit it is still unclear who will be affected and how much will fall.

A low temperature warning has been put in place for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal, with lowest temperatures of -3 Celsius expected overnight tonight.

“Many places will remain dry into the start of next week, but snow showers are expected to develop in some places, particularly across eastern and southern England”.

“Eastern areas will obviously get the worst of it, and get it initially as well”.

Great Britain is set for the coldest February week in five years as freezing air arrives from Russian Federation on Sunday.

The National Forecaster has a Status Yellow Weather Warning in place and it runs until next Saturday.

Spring has been postponed as the “beast from the east” brings the coldest end to a British winter in five years, the Met Office said.

The AA urged drivers to take extra care and said it was mobilising extra resources for an increase in demand for help over the coming week.

Today was comparatively balmy – with clear blue skies enticing everyone from horse riders to swimmers to enjoy the weather despite the chilly conditions. That’s quite far away but it’s something we’re keeping an eye on. At the moment, Uckfield is not covered by any weather warnings for Thursday, March 1, although a warning area is to the west and covers the Isle of Wight.
