Jaguar I-Pace arrives with 240 mile driving range

Yet the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace was unveiled in production form on Thursday, a few days before the 2019 Audi e-tron appears at the Geneva auto show-and far ahead of the BMW iX3 or Mercedes EQC expected for the 2020 model year.

Inside the I-Pace has stayed true to the concept in theme and form, but some of the extensive screens and tech did not translate to production.

While at first glance it looks pretty much identical to the concept previewed in 2016, there are some minor tweaks to aid in aerodynamics, tightening up the proportions and real-world practicalities like larger mirrors and higher profile tires.

While, however, the I-Pace will be the latest product from a thoroughly British brand and designed and developed in the United Kingdom, it will not be a strictly British auto. It marks Jaguar’s aim to become a key player in the luxury EV market. It’s similar in length to Jaguar’s XE midsize sedan at 4.67 metres (184 inches). It is by far, the most lovely electric vehicle we’ve seen, outclassing the practicality over style looks of Bolts, Volts and yes, Xs. However, according to official figures, the Jaguar still wins that contest, travelling up to 298 miles on a full battery, whereas the Tesla Model X 75D goes just 259 miles.

Jaguar is hoping to place itself right at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution with the all-electric I-Pace.

Moreover, the I-PACE has a potential range of nearly 300 miles on a single charge putting Jaguar at the forefront of current battery technology. The vehicle is also fully compatible with thew 100kW DC rapid-charging technology being rolled out across the United Kingdom, which will cut the 80% charge time to 40 minutes. It can be charged upto 80% in a matter of 40 minutes and using a quick charger, a 15 minute charge is good for around 100 kms. Stay tuned for more new rides coming soon.

A 90 kWh battery pack powers the I-Pace’s two electric motors placed on the front and rear axles. The interior of the electric SUV is equipped with the same InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system which debuted with the Range Rover Velar.

It’s on these touchscreens that the driver can take advantage of new tech like the EV Navigation feature that will take topography, driving style and more to help optimize the vehicle’s range. Pricing will start from £63,495 in the UK. A special First Edition model will be available for only the 2019 model year.

Designed and engineered in the United Kingdom, the I-PACE will be built in Plant Graz, Austria, as part of Jaguar Land Rover’s manufacturing partnership with Magna Steyr.
