Derby student arrested after a weapon found on school property
There will be walkouts at each of the schools, but as for the specific location at which students will gather, that’s not being revealed, in an abundance of caution.
The group, whose efforts have spawned similar events in other states, is asking participants to gather at Elmwood Park and link arms for a moment of silence at noon.
Students at Hampton High School are planning to walk out for 17 minutes March 14, as part of a national student walkout day. “While we may not have experienced a shooting, we have experienced that fear of knowing our school was individually threatened”. “The one thing we want to come out of this is for people to openly discuss gun violence”.

Students from about 20 DE schools will walk out of their classes for 17 minutes – one minute for every life lost in the Parkland shooting.
Senior Ann Gebauer described the atmosphere at Service High’s walk-out as “somber”.
An 18-year-old student was arrested Monday for bringing a BB gun to a Clark County high school, according to school police.
“Political agendas were not being pushed at all”. The student’s parent was called and questioned along with the student. Johnson said she and others at Central are inspired by the students who are speaking out. “We want a change to be made”, she said. “I think people will go through with it”. This walkout is in response to the shooting at a Parkland, Florida high school on February 14, and countless other shootings over the past few years. Survivors of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., have pushed for Congress and President Donald Trump to do something stop mass shootings.

Earlville recently dealt with a school violence issue of its own when a student was charged with disorderly conduct for making threats at school.
“I was actually waiting for someone else to coordinate it, but hadn’t heard anything”. “Because it was so thrown together, it was mostly just an expression of our emotions on the issue and a promotion of later events… and the upcoming elections”.
It was not all quiet at Matanzas High School this morning.
“If everyone leaves the classroom, then they can leave and lock the doors”, a teacher said. “If your school does that, the ACLU wants to hear from you”.
“If they can doing that the only way they could do that is with a fire drill, and if that was incorporated in this as a way to have everyone exit the building, I don’t think that’s appropriate”. They have learned a lot about leadership already, they said.
“I am a proud principal”, Henderson said.
