The Patriots were among the teams watching Johnny Manziel’s pro day audition
The 2012 Heisman Trophy victor last played in the National Football League with the Cleveland Browns in 2015 after being selected by the team in the first round of the 2014 draft. During an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America” in February, Manziel said he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and admitted to alcohol problems. He also recently got married to his longtime girlfriend, Bre Tiesi.
Many in the sports world feel Manziel’s checkered past would make him a more suspect signing than Kaepernick, who many feel was not signed because of his national anthem protest.
Johnny looks like he’s ready #ComebackSZN and I know damn well I am too. My goal is to make it back to the National Football League, and I realize I have to earn that privilege. I thought Sam’s pro day was great yesterday, just from what I’ve seen so far.
Then again, with how desperate organizations are to find quarterbacks, perhaps one will be willing to give him a shot in training camp.
So, just for them, I wish them all the best.
‘Maybe they’ll see some things different than they were in the past, ‘ he continued.
“I think I’ve changed drastically”.
Johnny Manziel’s #ComebackSZN off to a rather interesting start. According to Eric Williams of ESPN, Manziel agreed to attend San Diego’s Pro Day because the school didn’t have a quarterback to throw.
After being selected 22nd overall in the 2014 NFL Draft, Manziel went to where quarterbacks go to die, Cleveland Ohio, and was given the seemingly insurmountable task of making the Cleveland Browns relevant for the first time in over a decade.
Manziel has a lot of work to do before regaining the trust of National Football League teams, but he has been actively campaigning and attempting to show that his immaturity and off-field issues are a thing of the past.
The Heisman Trophy victor has been training with his old quarterback coach, George Whitfield, in San Diego. His rights are now held by the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Manziel to the Patriots or any team for that matter may seem like a longshot but never underestimate Bill Belichick or Jon Gruden.
