Apple iPhone Aims To Become More Flexible?
Apple is expected to reveal a lower-price laptop and updated iPad at an education-themed event in Chicago on Tuesday, which could shore up Apple’s defenses against Google’s increasing presence in US schools. With a huge screen the new 9.7-inch iPad offers a more immersive Augmented Reality experience than phones do.
Apple is also rolling out a new educational app called Schoolwork to help teachers make assignments and monitor their students’ progress.
CHICAGO-Educators will have new ways to use iOS in schools thanks to Apple’s latest software update.
Apple’s new iPad is targeted to students, with a light computing device, a battery that will last all day, a fantastic camera and a price tag that may be a challenge for school administrators. Apple announced that the iWork apps including Pages, Numbers and Keynote will support the Apple Pencil. There’s Schoolwork, for helping teachers assign and track projects, and give out handouts, and Apple Teacher, a learning program for teachers available online.
“One idea is that this might help teachers tailor activities”, reported ReCode.
“For my classrooms, it just means we’ll have access to more creative tools than we’ve had before”, Jennifer Smith, a Chicago-based middle school teacher, told ABC affiliate WLS in Chicago.
Apple released a new 9.7 iPad with Apple Pencil support today.
The launch marks Apple’s biggest iPad education initiative since it struck a partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School district in 2013. During a lesson, for instance, teachers can open an app on all the students’ iPads or show them all the same documents.
Apple has also introduced a couple of new accessories in partnership with Logitech. Apple’s products have been losing ground in USA classrooms to Google and Microsoft during the past few years.
The cheaper MacBook Air is said to be priced round $799 to $899 range.
Rather than try to win on price (the new iPads still cost about twice the starting price of Chromebook models) Apple is looking to sell schools on the whole suite of software around the new iPads. This new tablet starts at a pricing of Rs. 28,000 in India.
“Although it looks pretty much the same as any other iPad, this new 9.7” iPad is mostly all new.
The new courses highlight features that some low-cost laptops do not have, such as a camera and microphone.
Tech companies are battling for dominance in USA schools with cheap devices and laptops that are geared towards classroom use and seen as a way to hook young consumers.
