Fans excited as Boston Red Sox play first game of the season
He has ability to opt out after this year if he if he wants to. They’re taking it nice and slow with their closer.
Just north of the Suncoast, the Tampa Bay Rays begin their season Thursday afternoon, playing host to the Boston Red Sox at Tropicana Field. It took him a while to warm up. He threw 95 pitches, 54 of which were strikes.
“I felt good, I’m trying to contribute”, Bogaerts said. Baseball’s still the same, it’s life that’s different.
The Opening Day game was a sellout for the attendance-challenged and revenue-challenged Rays with a stated attendance of 31,024, but empty seats in the stadium were in evidence. Martinez has been trying to get his timing down after a delayed start to spring training, so it isn’t worthwhile to fret over a slow start. “We know he has something going on with his knee, but he’s giving 100 percent”.
After the game, his team doused Cora in beer for career win No. 1 as the Red Sox manager.
“We’re winning the east, and definitely going all the way to the series”, the fan said. “The hometown boy is the hometown hero, and it was great to see”, Archer said. So I don’t think it’s as dire as people are making it out to be at this point. “I don’t see anybody in here hanging their heads or losing confidence”, the Boston ace added. Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts had three hits Thursday but is 0-for-9 lifetime against Snell.
“The most important thing is to keep him healthy”. He is just 42-years-old and a big part of the appeal of Cora is that he seemingly can relate to today’s Major League Baseball player.
The odds are that Alex Cora will last more than one season here, unlike Bobby V., but it’s still very much unclear as to whether or not Cora can get a talented Sox team over the hump in the postseason.
Cora expects Mitch Moreland to play in both games this weekend.
Then you go to Rick Porcello. He is healthy and projected to be just fine, but he still has that postseason albatross around his neck (remember, no Red Sox pitcher has a postseason victory as a starter). “Go out there and throw the ball the way I threw the ball before I got to Boston”.
We were gifted with 7 scoreless innings with Sale pitching. Rodriguez, coming off knee surgery, isn’t too far down the road.
