Ibrahimovic Pumped For Galaxy Debut
Zlatan Ibrahimovic of the Los Angeles Galaxy answers questions from the media during a press conference at StubHub Center on March 30, 2018, in Carson, California.
Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho expressed regret about the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to play in the United States. ‘I wanted to come here then, and it didn’t happen.
“They’re talking about whether I should go, they have it good, but so far they win nothing and I know how to win, so let’s see”.
“Obviously as a coach I’m excited”, said Schmid. Never one to shy away from the spotlight, the Swedish attacker who most recently starred at Manchester United was given a hero’s welcome when he landed at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday night with several hundred fans greeting him. I said once before I feel like Benjamin Button.
It paid off, and the Galaxy are ecstatic that Ibrahimovic has arrived and believe he can help the team find its way back to the top after a horrid season a year ago.
“For me, it’s always sad when the big players go in the direction of the end”.
Saturday’s sold-out fixture pits the Galaxy, one of the league’s original 10 teams, against expansion club LAFC, whose ownership group includes sports figures and celebrities such as Will Ferrell and Magic Johnson.
Ibrahimovic played all of 103 minutes in his five-game comeback at Manchester United. “He is super confident and he has another team now, so he should only wish and be happy that I’m not playing in 2020”.
And Schmid gave the fans what they wanted, bringing Ibrahimovic on for Lletget in the 71st minute with the former PSG and Barcelona player forcing the action right away. Declaring that he has come to America to win trophies, Ibrahimovic said, “The lion is hungry”. I was born old and I will die young.
David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Robbie Keane and Ashley Cole have all represented the Galaxy. I think if he stayed he would’ve played more next year. I’m looking forward to our relationship and working together, he could have selected many options but he chose us and I’m very proud of that.
The Swedish striker left Manchester United to join the MLS side in what many believe will be the final stop in an illustrious career which has spanned nearly two decades.
