Cop called Alton Sterling a “stupid motherf**ker” after killing him

Widespread protests occurred throughout the city in the wake of Sterling’s death, during which almost 200 individuals were arrested.

Blane Salamoni, the Baton Rouge police officer who shot dead a 37-year-old black man outside a store in Baton Rouge in Louisiana in the United States, was sacked on Friday, March 30, after a disciplinary hearing said that he violated the department’s standing.

The video shows them attempting to subdue sterling outside a convenience store.

Following the announcement of the disciplinary actions against the two officers, the police department finally released the additional video footage of the shooting, which occurred in a convenience store parking lot just after midnight on July 5, 2016.

The local district attorney recused himself from any state criminal investigation into Sterling’s death, citing his professional relationship with Salamoni’s parents, who have served as police officers in Baton Rouge. As Sterling asks what he has done, the two officers try to push him onto the auto.

“Don’t f–g move or I’ll shoot you in your f–g head”, Salamoni told Sterling as he held a gun to his head. A weapon is aimed at the rear of Sterling’s head as the police officer’s orders increase right into a yell. Salamoni uses derogatory language throughout the video and even says, “let him be” as Lake tries to intervene further.

“We publically (sic) stand behind and support Officer Blane Salamoni and Officer Howie Lake”, the union said in a statement.

Someone yells “he’s got a gun”, then gunshots ring out. Sterling, 37, was shot after a resident reported he had been threatened by a black man selling CDs.

The officers recovered a loaded revolver from Sterling’s pocket. Lake tells Salamoni he put Sterling’s gun in his patrol auto.

Stewart said the newly released videos show officer Salamoni attacked Sterling without provocation “like a wild dog”. “There is anger”, said attorney for Alton Sterling’s children L. Chris Stewart. Sterling doesn’t immediately comply, starts trying to walk toward the store and away from the vehicle, and Lake puts his hand on Sterling’s chest and pushes him back toward the auto. While struggling with Sterling, both officers’ cameras came loose. “The person who was out of control was Blane Salamoni”, attorney Michael Adams said at a news conference.

The shooting also prompted his firing, as Police Chief Murphy Paul announced Friday that Salamoni had violated the department’s use-of-force policy.

“He did what he was trained to do”, McLindon added.

The officers said they feared for their lives once Sterling tried to pull out the gun – but cell phone video of the incident showed the pistol never left Sterling’s pocket, and was removed after the shooting by one of the cops.

The department had originally said Salamoni’s body camera fell off during the shooting and did not capture the shooting. “Officer Howie Lake answered all of the questions that were presented during the hearing”, Paul said. He suspended Lake for violating only the latter policy. The pair had been on paid administrative leave since the shooting.

The Justice Department dismissed government criminal costs last May.
