Labour leadership hopeful Andy Burnham targets seats in Surrey and Hampshire
Mr Corbyn’s continuing surge in the battle to replace Ed Miliband has seen some install him as favourite but it has also sparked deep division among Labour MPs.
The man who could be the next Labour leader tells Aldershot he is aiming for success in the constituency.
Ballot papers for the leadership election will be sent out on 14 August, with the result announced on 12 September.
A spokeswoman for Ms Cooper said: “Of course we welcome support for the policies Yvette is championing from any supporter for the Labour Party – including Andy and his team”.
“That voice can not be silenced”.
Speaking at The Spirit of Mother Jones Festival in Cork where he gave a lecture on his close friend, the late Tony Benn, Mr Mullin said that he believed that Mr Corbyn was the closest of the four candidates to Mr Benn in terms of his political philosophy and his vision for Britain. “The alternative of staying home and shouting at the television will achieve absolutely nothing”.
And he attacked “disgusting language” used about the migrant crisis in Calais.
“A recent Ipsos Mori poll shows Andy is the candidate the public and former Labour voters would most like to see as leader”.
“While Labour continues to look inward, the SNP is leading the opposition to the Tory government and its ideological assault on the poorest people in society – which is why more and more people in Scotland are putting their trust in us as we approach next year’s Scottish Parliament election and are rejecting Labour in their droves”.
Gareth Eales, CWU area processing rep and local Labour councillor, added: “I am delighted that the CWU are backing Jeremy Corbyn“.
Aintree-born Mr Burnham appeared to be the front-runner when he declared his candidacy for the leadership, but he has since lost some ground to left-wing backbench rebel Mr Corbyn, who spoke at a rally in Liverpool this weekend.
Richard Murphy, an economic adviser to Mr Corbyn’s campaign and of Tax Research UK, told BBC Radio 4’s World At One that Mr Leslie has “got this completely wrong” as he defended the plan for “people’s quantitative easing”.
