Hart Family’s Deadly Crash On Pacific Coast Highway May Have Been Intentional
The department said it had no history with the Hart family.
The search for what caused the deadly crash has led investigators to examine “red flags” in the Harts’ past.
If investigators can get a positive ID, Barney said, they can focus more resources on the area and hopefully get more video or witness accounts to determine whether the family of eight was together shortly before the crash. Hannah reportedly claimed it was Jennifer Hart who had hit her. About 2 hours later, deputies arrived and discovered the bodies of Sarah and Jennifer Hart and 3 of their 6 adopted children. The family continued to homeschool after moving to OR and then Washington.
But in general, Oregon’s Department of Human Services explained when they would, and would not, report child welfare concerns to other states.
Soon after the visit from child services, the family and their vehicle were gone, Bruce DeKalb said. That document has not yet been made public and the details of the complaint are unknown.
The vehicle crash which killed two lesbian women and at least three of their six adopted children last month may have been intentional, reports said. After the agency visited the family’s home on a Friday before the crash, the family appeared to have left the home shortly after.
A neighbor of the Harts’, Bruce DeKalb, said he called Child Protective Services (CPS) prior to the crash, since he and his wife Dana were alarmed by how thin the children were.
He sometimes visited the neighbors multiple times a day.
DeKalb told HLN last week that Devonte and one of his sisters had said they were being mistreated. “Both of her teeth were missing, front teeth”. “A lot of it was washed out, if they had it”, he said Tuesday. “One girl who was 12 looked like she was 7”.
There is “every indication” that Hannah, Devonte and Sierra were riding in the SUV, too, but it’s also possible they were left behind with friends, Allman said.
The officer, Sgt. Bret Barnum, told The Oregonian at the time that he had spotted Devonte carrying a “Free Hugs” sign, called the boy over and asked him was why he was crying. “Because we had our three kids, we had the ideal family, you know?”
Angry at the refusal, they hacked to death Sirka’s family members and dumped their bodies in the jungle.
“At this point in our investigation, that is the direction we are going”, said Greg Baarts of the California Highway Patrol’s Northern Division. They remained on State Route 1 until they reached Fort Bragg.
The California Highway Patrol released a surveillance image of Jennifer Jean Hart at a Safeway store in Fort Bragg, California from the morning of March 25.
A married Washington state couple, Jennifer Hart, 38, and Sarah Hart, 38, were killed.
Officers notified the brother of the driver, a son of the older couple. But because of the family’s travel and the three children who are still missing, they are still searching.
Two weeks ago, Bruce and Dana DeKalb, next-door neighbors of the Harts in Woodland, Washington, called state Child Protective Services because the couple’s 15-year-old son Devonte had been coming over to their house nearly every day for a week, asking for food.
