Trump rails on as Honduran migrants halted
Central American migrants receive donated clothes as they take a break from traveling in their caravan, on their journey to the USA, in Matias Romero, Oaxaca, Mexico, April 3, 2018.
The Trump administration says it is working with governors to “immediately” deploy the National Guard to combat illegal immigration at the U.S. -Mexico border.
He further accused Barack Obama of “making changes that simply led to an absence of border” without anyone knowing what he was referring to.
Migrant rights groups are distancing themselves from a caravan of roughly 1,200 Central Americans claiming that its size and sheer force north could bring about a plethora of problems for future migrants.
When they get to the USA, they hope American authorities will grant them asylum or, for some, be absent when they attempt to cross the border illegally.
GUTIERREZ: Well, yes, I do believe that if Mexico was not doing that, probably the situation in our shared border would be a little bit more complicated.
“Mexico is doing very little, if not NOTHING, at stopping people from flowing into Mexico through their Southern Border, and then into the U.S.”, Trump tweeted Sunday.
In response, the Mexican government said on Monday the migrants in the caravan are undergoing an “administrative procedure” – a process that officials said would determine whether they had the right to stay in Mexico or would be returned to their countries of origin.
“Getting more unsafe. “Caravans” coming”, Trump tweeted Sunday. But he came back after he lost track of his companions after getting off in Medias Aguas, Veracruz. Republicans must go to Nuclear Option to pass tough laws NOW. He said Mexico had the power to keep migrants from entering their country.
“Further, since no funds have been appropriated for that objective, we conclude that an expenditure of funds by the Department of Defense for the construction of a border wall would very likely violate the Antideficiency Act”, they added. That’s because Mexico has very strong immigration laws, as we should have. Caravans are heading here.
During the march there were shouts for the ouster of Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, whose disputed re-election victory in a November vote split the country.
“We will wrap up our work in Mexico City”, said Irineo Mujica, the head of the migrant advocacy group People Without Borders (Pueblo sin Fronteras). They must stop the big drug and people flows, or I will stop their cash cow, NAFTA. “ACT CONGRESS”, the president wrote.
The caravan was apparently breaking up on Tuesday, according to Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who tweeted, “I’ve been advised by Mexican officials that the caravan is dissipating”.
The group also listed a series of demands of Central American countries, including “an end to political corruption” and “an end to violence against women and the LGBTQIA community”. “I thank the GOM for their partnership on this and other security issues”. I’ve said that I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t believe that Mexico and the US can and should have a positive relationship.
US President Donald Trump, further escalating his rhetoric on illegal immigration, has said that the military will be sent to guard the US-Mexico border until his long-promised border wall is built.
These immigrants, he warned, wait in the shadows and create “havoc and chaos”.
“We don’t know what President Trump is talking about when he says that Honduras doesn’t do anything” to stop illegal immigration, presidential spokesman Ebal Díaz said on a local TV program.
‘We do not accept the construction of a wall on our border.
The rest of the group remains in Matias Romero, enduring the scorching heat – and waiting.
Kalach also said he expected more clarity on the talks’ progress toward the end of this week and the start of the next.
The Southern Arizona Militia also posted a story about the caravan that asked simply: “What should we do when they get to the border?”
U.S. President Donald Trump ” s decision to deploy the National Guard along the Mexican border has made Mexican presidential candidates call for unity to defend the country. “We are preparing for the military to secure our border between Mexico and the United States”.
These “Stations of the Cross” migrant caravans have been held in southern Mexico for at least the last five years.
Mexico has said such caravans of mostly Central Americans, including many escaping violence in Honduras, have occurred since 2010. But some major differences remain, and as Connors told an editorial writer in an interview, “We have made it clear that we won’t accept a bad deal for Canada”.
