At least 14 killed in bus crash involving junior hockey league team

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock fought back tears as he addressed the media on Saturday morning about the bus crash on Friday night in northeastern Saskatchewan involving the Humboldt Broncos that claimed the lives of 14 and injured several others. The players were travelling to the sixth game of their league’s semi-final series when a transport truck broadsided their bus on a rural Saskatchewan highway. Another 15 members of the team – including a player from Stony Plain as well as a third former Spruce Grove Saint – were also involved in the crash.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to collect donations for the families of the victims and had already raised over $336,000 by Saturday morning.

As for where the money goes, Kellington said she’s in discussions with Broncos management to have it deposited directly in the team’s account.

“Growing up playing hockey and spending a great deal of time in Saskatchewan, you gain appreciation for the kind of people that come from there”, he said.
