Floyd Mayweather’s bodyguard shot near Atlanta, reports say
“A man claiming to be one of Floyd Mayweather’s bodyguards was shot outside of an upscale hotel in Atlanta Monday morning … the Atlanta Police Dept. tells TMZ Sports”. There is much regarding Mayweather’s potential return from retirement that is unclear at this point, but he is adamant about one thing: he will not compete in the ring if he comes back.
The shooting happened outside the Intercontinental Buckhead Atlanta Hotel on Peachtree Road.
The bodyguard, Gregory La Rosa, was treated at Grady Hospital, and discharged around 5:30 a.m.
Mayweather went on to confirm “absolutely” that he would become an MMA fighter saying: ‘Retirement has been great but as everyone knows I go into retirement and then I come back.
But whoever shot into the vehicle was targeting someone within Mayweather’s entourage, Hannah said.
He is said to be in a stable condition although no further details have been announced and his name has not been released. Both Mayweather’s and the club’s social media accounts promoted his appearance there earlier in the day. Videos from throughout the night show him enjoying his time, listening to music and purchasing drinks for the other patrons.
Al Raisi tweeted over the weekend stating an agreement was in place between Mayweather and McGregor for what is effectively a glorified boxing match under highly modified MMA rules.
Coincidentally, McGregor returned to the spotlight three days earlier.
The bus attack by McGregor and associates lead to three bouts getting pulled from the UFC 223 and a police report being filed by UFC fighter Michael Chiesa. McGregor also stands accused of punching a security guard during the Thursday incident.
The UFC fighter is now out on bail after being charged with three counts of assault and one of criminal mischief.
