Rory McIlroy to test out ankle with practice round at Whist
Sadly, this video may have to be the consolation prize for McIlroy missing the PGA Championship, but at least we’ll have this.
The best trick-shot artists in the game – the Bryan Brothers – and the best player in the game by the World Ranking – Rory McIlroy – teamed up to make this trick-shot video at Whistling Straits.
McIlroy ruptured a ligament in his left ankle back in early June and has been unable to compete since.
Previously, he said that although his rehab was going well, he did not want to rush back before he was ready.
McIlroy won last year’s PGA Championship at Valhalla by a shot over Phil Mickelson.
The first round of the PGA Championship will take place nearly six weeks after he was injured playing soccer.
Should he win this week’s Bridgestone Invitational, Spieth would displace McIlroy as world number one. An employee at the course told Reuters that he was not allowed to comment on participants’ practice rounds ahead of the PGA.
World No. 1 McIlroy will lead the field at Whistling Straits, Wisconsin next week when the major kicks off on August 10. When the PGA was last contested at Whistling Straits in 2010, McIlroy finished tied for third with Zach Johnson.
