National First Ladies’ Library exhibit in Canton honors Barbara Bush
The former president appeared Wednesday with his wife Laura Bush on the Fox Business Network.
“The world is poorer without her in it”. “I’m not running for president – George Bush is”. We didn’t know it was going to be dedicated to Robin [the daughter the Bushes lost to leukemia when she was three]. Bush. Regula passed away two weeks ago at the age of 91. “He says she responded by telling him: “‘I want you to know that you’re my favorite son – on the phone'”.
Former first lady Barbara Bush in Orlando in 2005.
“She was a great role model for me, for sure”.
“It’s true, sometimes we laugh through our tears, but that shared laughter has been one of our strongest bonds”.
That was Barbara Bush.
The next thought I had upon learning of Bush’s death was how her passing will place in high relief the greatness of the Bush family. She was the keynote speaker at a Junior League of Oklahoma-sponsored child abuse prevention conference being held in Tulsa, before later joining her husband at the annual Salvation Army Tulsa dinner, at which he spoke. She urged graduates to choose their own path – and not to let others define it for them, evoking the spirit of tolerance to counter those who protested that she was a poor choice for a speaker.
“He would invariably ask the question you hoped he wouldn’t ask as a staff member”, Kaplan said. “The grace, honor and decency of Barbara Bush and her husband displayed are entirely absent in President Trump and his clan of grifters”. Bush’s advocacy changed the conversation about the issue. She never wanted to talk about herself.
The Texas Rangers, the baseball team, tweeted a photo of Bush throwing out the ceremonial first pitch wearing its team jacket.
Barbara Bush died Tuesday at the age of 92 following a series of hospitalizations. “She’s what a first lady is supposed to be”.
In an interview commemorating her 90 birthday, she told granddaughter Jenna Bush Hager on the Today show that she started wearing pearls to cover her wrinkles.
Bush concluded, “Your words speak eloquently of your love for your child and your compassion for all gay Americans and their families”. Both tough and gracious, a woman who knew her share of sorrows but made it all look easy even so. And as an American, I’m grateful for her service.
During a 1988 visit while campaigning for her husband, she read to patients at Children’s Medical Center. A life beautifully lived.
Barbara Bush will lie in repose Friday and the public is invited to the viewing from noon to midnight at St. Martin’s Church. “May she rest in peace”.
