Trump Says He’ll Leave The North Korea Talks If They Aren’t ‘Fruitful’
US officials stressed that Trump has met with Abe more than any other world leader and say they’ve been in “constant contact” since Trump accepted Kim’s invitation. “Prime Minister Abe and the President are going to want to exchange views in advance of a summit with the North Korean leader so that we make sure Japanese and American interests are both fully accounted for”. “If the meeting when I’m there is not fruitful I will respectfully leave the meeting”, Trump told a news conference.

But the preliminary talks have increased the pressure on Trump to start showing results.

Trump confirmed in a tweet on Wednesday that Pompeo, who is going through the Senate confirmation process to become secretary of state, met with Kim around Easter. At the Aspen Security Forum last summer, Pompeo said it would be “a great thing to denuclearize the Peninsula”, but added that the “most dangerous” thing was “the character who holds the control over them today”.
Cultural exchanges have also warmed relations on either side of the 38th parallel, most recently with a performance by South Korean pop acts in the North Korean capital.

Paul is the only Republican who has publicly opposed Pompeo. The president and first lady Melania Trump later hosted Abe and his wife for an al fresco dinner on the Mar-a-Lago patio.
World leaders have quickly learned that flattery is an easy way into Trump’s graces, and throughout the two-day summit, Abe appeared keen to praise the president at every opportunity. “The president has at times seemed naïve about what he can achieve”.

The president repeated his oft-employed assertion that “no one” has been tougher on Moscow than he has.
North Korea has a somewhat complicated relationship with the first lady concept.
