Salah emerges English FIFA Player of the year
Salah is preparing to face his former side this week when Roma arrive at Anfield on Tuesday night for their Champions League semi-final first leg.
Italian defenders have a reputation for their uncompromising approach and Klopp alluded to that when discussing Salah’s situation. However, none captured more attention and media buzz than the ties shared with Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah. “He’s an unbelievable manager and obviously everyone in the squad feels privileged to work with him I feel I’ve improved a lot since I joined this football club, but hopefully I can keep improving over the next few years”.
“It’s a big honor, I feel great about it. I think if all the other players vote for you it means most to all players”, added Klopp.
The only criticism that could perhaps be levelled at the 25-year-old is that he could have scored even more goals had he been more ruthless with the number of the chances he has missed this season, particularly in the early part of the campaign.
Martin Keown says Kevin De Bruyne deserved it over Mohamed Salah, but thinks the Manchester City star will have the last laugh over the Liverpool man anyway.
But the Serie A side have an unenviable record of losing their last three Champions League games on the road – conceding eight goals in the process – which does not bode well ahead of their visit.
The Egyptian global was today confirmed as the PFA Premier League Player of the Year after netting an incredible 31 goals and providing nine assists in just 33 appearances.
At his pre-match press conference yesterday, Klopp sought to downplay Liverpool’s tag as favourites.
“As great an honour as this is, I am sure De Bruyne would rather have a Premier League medal around his neck”, he said.
“But I do understand probably a lot of people would have thought this semi-final would be Barcelona v Manchester City – but it is not because it is football”.
Speaking after their 5-0 victory over Swansea on Sunday, Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, had backed his midfielder for the award.
“We did something similar at City”.
He has been out of this world this season, and he is a deserved victor of the PFA Player of the Year award. We’ve improved every season and we’ve worked so hard to get here, but hopefully this is just the start for this squad. It is not like that.
