Kanye West explains Trump support on new track
In the wake of raging controversy around Kanye West‘s pro-Trump tweets, the rapper chose to transfer his supportive sentiment to the music studio and add a professional touch to his display.
West’s song, “Ye vs”. T.I. takes Kanye to task for his antics, while West passionately explains and defends his actions.
West begins the song by saying “I know Obama was heaven sent, but ever since Trump won, it proved that I could be president”. He then hinted that the two rappers discussed the Yeezy designers Twitter rants and his lineup with Trump, but didn’t detail too many specifics.
The last tweet directly calls out people who turn a blind eye to Trump’s “white supremacist” tendencies, in this case, he’s talking about Kanye and his history with Trump, and he says it would take “some serious cognitive dissonance to ignore” the bad things the President has done. In December 2016, West headed to Trump Tower in NY to meet with the political figure, with whom he exchanged a hug.
On Saturday, Kanye, who recently returned to Twitter following an nearly year-long hiatus, tweeted a text exchange with an unknown recipient, in which the rapper posted one of the doctor’s former mug shots and wrote, “This is my album cover”.
Most recently, he has referred to the U.S. president as his “brother”, adding that they have the same “dragon energy” in common. He was even photographed wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat. Pick somebody that you had an argument with that you think you hate maybe even someone you haven’t spoken to in years and contact that person and tell them I love you.
West, who once claimed he would run for the United States presidency in 2020, says that just by wearing the hat he gave it a “new direction” and meaning.
The song is dialogue in rap between Kanye and T.I. with T.I. attempting to serve as the voice of reason.
T.I. rebutted West’s comment, claiming the message behind Trump’s famous slogan is harmful to certain demographics.
“You wore a dusty-ass hat to represent the same views”.
Depending on which of Kanye’s celeb pals you talk to, the answer could be any of the above. On Thursday, the Roots drummer went on BuzzFeed’s AM to DM to speak about his disappointment in Kanye. “I’m just refusing to be enslaved by monolithic thought”, West tweeted Friday.
