NRL player Jordan Mailata drafted by Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles saved their most interesting pick of the 2018 National Football League draft for last.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – The Philadelphia Eagles and their former kicker stuck it to Dallas by drafting a kid named after the Cowboys.
In a meeting with reporters a week before the NFL Draft, Eagles vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas expressed concern that his team might not be able to secure the undrafted free agents it covets because of the perception that there won’t be many opportunities to make the roster of a defending Super Bowl champion.
Well, right now the Eagles have a starting safety (Rodney McLeod) and a Super Bowl hero running back (Corey Clement) who weren’t drafted.
Former Dallas wide receiver Dez Bryant, who was cut by the team two weeks ago, tweeted that Akers should be careful leaving the stadium after the draft.
“Back in the day, you know if we played Dallas, Larry Allen was the left guard and Keith Hamilton was the right tackle and they were going to bang away on each other all day long every game”.
“It’s hard going through three rounds and having one player taken”, he said.
The Eagles’ next pick, fourth-round cornerback Avonte Maddox, might have a chance to emerge at the nickel – particularly if Roseman ends up trading Darby, but that is hardly a given.
At this time previous year, sports prognosticators were confident that the New England Patriots were Super Bowl favorites, and that confidence was justified. Particularly winning the first Super Bowl in franchise history. Last year, they signed Adam Zaruba, a tight end who spent the season on the practice squad.
Jay Ajayi, acquired in a trade with the Miami Dolphins midseason past year, will be expected to serve as Philadelphia’s top back.
But the stat that really made the National Football League scouts stand up and take notice was time over 40-yards – 5.12 secs.
That led to a workout in Los Angeles in November and he was then selected to train at IMG in Florida, where he held a Pro Day led by Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, who will now serve as his full-time position coach as he looks to make the team as a tackle. For one, they traded up to pick one spot ahead of the Cowboys.
With the 49th overall pick, the Eagles select……
The Eagles don’t ask their tight ends to pass block much, but Goedert will be asked to carry his share of the load in the run game.
Carson Wentz, the Eagles starting quarterback from North Dakota State, seemed happy after the pick.
Despite never having played American football, Mailata’s huge 203cm, 155kg frame was intriguing enough for the Eagles to use their seventh round pick on (233rd overall).
