Democrats strive to tighten their hold in several states
Donald Trump has urged Republicans to fight to keep control of the House of Representatives to save him being impeached by the Democrats, writes The Independent.Republicans now hold a 235-193 advantage in the lower chamber of the US Congress. The national GOP committees and super PACs will not be able to prop up Republican candidates the same way they have in the special elections.
Yet a Republican congressional victory Tuesday in the Phoenix suburbs has set off new alarm bells.

The lone Democratic exclusion, West Virginia’s Joe Manchin, ranks 31st, but that still puts him ahead of his potential GOP rivals.
“If even one Republican loses re-election in November 2018, there is no telling what kind of new taxes Democratic leaders might push through”, the PAC’s website proclaims. “That’s the most important thing by a multiplier of 1 million”. She says 2017 was a peak year for her industry, which she attributes to tax cuts and the strong economy.
Karin Housley, a small-business owner and suburban state senator, is the only Republican to announce plans to run for the seat.
Republicans will have plenty of resources with independent groups and their wealthiest backers paying for advertising and voter outreach. Democrats now need just 23 seats to reclaim the majority. There are no Republican races in Chatham County being contested on May 8.
“I don’t like the president and felt it was time to take a stand”, said Nikole Allen, a 45-year-old medical assistant from NY now living in Glendale.
Early voting runs through Saturday, May 5 with the election May 8.
