No Iranians killed in missile attack on Syria: Informed source

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that the attacked base belongs to the 47th Brigade and is controlled by Iranian and Assad regime forces in the southern countryside of Hama. Citing an unidentified “intelligence source”, Reuters said that “multiple missile strikes hit several command centers for Iranian-backed militias”.

“All these reports over attack on an Iranian military base in Syria and the martyrdom of several Iranian military advisers in Syria are baseless”, an official told Iran’s Tasnim news agency.

Syria President Bashar al-Assad, whose main allies are Russian Federation and Iran, did not explicitly mention the overnight strikes but said “hostile countries have shifted to a stage of direct aggression”.

In the April 9 attack, at least 14 soldiers, including seven Iranians, were killed in the strike on a military base in central Homs province.

Dozens of civilians in the region were reportedly injured by more than 70 airstrikes carried out by the regime.

Speaking during the meeting, Bashar Assad, in particular, stated that a hostile country, “the United States and its allies”, went on to direct aggression against Syria, having failed in supporting “terrorists” that oppose his regime. They prefer to refrain from statements which may force them to retaliatory action against Israel – and the lack of such actions will be perceived as empty threats – given the fact that Iran has not managed to answer a previous attack against the base of T4. So large missiles fired from Syria were and remain Iran’s best way of attacking Israel.

It did not say if there were any casualties.

Israel has watched anxiously as Iran first shored up Syrian President Bashar Assad’s rule with weapons and money, then committed troops of its own and built military infrastructure across the country.

In a news flash, state television said the missile attacks took place at 10:30pm local time.

The Syrian military said that bases in Hama and Aleppo were targeted by rocket strikes late on April 29, according to the state-run news agency SANA.

A number of strikes on targets in Syria have been attributed to Israel, though it rarely confirms such raids. Western nations and Israel have previously hit sites in Syria.

Sunday’s strike is the second suspected Israeli strike on Syrian military positions this month. At around the same time, missiles hit a military base near Aleppo International Airport in northern Syria. They said that attacks were carried out at the airbase located in nearby Aleppo Province, where surface-to-surface missile missiles were kept.
