Eagles draft tracker: CB Maddox, DE Sweat join flock in fourth round

Former Philadelphia Eagles kicker David Akers went on an epic rant during the second round of the NFL Draft. I met with them at the combine. Luckily, Howie Roseman and company have played their cards right, so far. For those hoping to transition to other positions – Hayne (Running Back) and Gotsis (Defensive End) – the challenges are much greater and to date only Gotsis (32 games), is the only non-special team player to make the transition successfully.

Goedert was named “Dallas” because of his father’s affinity for the Cowboys, he said Friday night, adding that he nevertheless rooted for the Green Bay Packers growing up thanks to his stepdad’s influence. The possibilities are endless, and the mismatches are too. Claiming tight end a need when Zach Ertz is on the roster may seem extravagant, but Eagles fans have been spoiled with three quality tight ends for years now, and two of those are gone.

Maddox’ small frame (5-foot-9, 184 pounds) may remind fans of Brandon Boykin, and the Eagles may have a similar role for Maddox in mind.

While there was a little football discussed, most of the conversation at the NFL event was about more pressing topics such as off-field leadership. Souths had let him go.
