Jets grab series lead with 7-4 win over Predators
Winnipeg now leads the series 2-1 and will come back looking for blood Thursday night in game four at 8:30 p.m. Kevin Fiala eventually got to him, but by then Pekka Rinne was already on the bench for the night. Eight of them came against playoff teams.
The Nashville Predators started the game off hot, scoring on their first shot of the game on a goal from Ryan Johansen. The team’s had to defend opponent power plays just 6.4 minutes per game over their last five outings.
National Hockey League playoff action this evening and a pair of teams from the Central Division will square off as the Nashville Predators pay a visit to the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba to rumble with the Winnipeg Jets in game three of their best-of-seven series.
Honestly, when I came in the building Tuesday night, it felt strangely subdued, with a little less of the energy the fans provided in the first round of the playoffs.
Nashville completely dominated the first period.
Then with the teams still playing 4-on-4, Trouba took a slick pass from Wheeler just 18 seconds later and the crowd erupted after his second of the postseason.
The second period, however, was a completely different story – starting with a greasy one off the “lower body” of Paul Stastny.
Take a picture folks. You then were watching to see how Nashville would react… what would be their response?
If you are outside of the listening area, listen live online at The Game website or check out the podcast about two hours after the show at on SoundCloud. Filip Forsberg also had three primary assists for the first time in the postseason in his career.
P.K. Subban – Nashville’s star blueliner had a goal and an assist in Game Three at Winnipeg, but was on the ice for three goals against (with one for) and his third period penalty for high-sticking led to Blake Wheeler’s game-winning goal on the ensuing power play. “He saw me, I just made a move and buried it”. Ouch. We’re sure this is all in the spirit of good old-fashioned rivalry fun, but there are some lines that should not be crossed!
In game one of the series, a 4-1 Jets win over the Predators on Friday, Scheifele scored twice.
So would the missed call inside the final minute of the second period when Kyle Connor hooked Ryan Ellis to the ground as he got possession of the puck in the defensive zone.
Fiala also played the hero in the 2017 postseason, scoring the victor in Game 3 of their first-round series against the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Jets forced the overtime when Mark Scheifele scored his second goal with just 1:05 remaining in regulation. The Jets could ill-afford to lose a top defenceman for a five-minute penalty – not to mention the risk of injury – for a fight with a third liner …
Though neither Underwood nor the NHL officially confirmed that the superstar would be performing the national anthem before the game, Carrie did tease earlier this year that she could be heading back to the ice to sing again after she did the same nearly exactly a year ago in April 2017.
The Nashville Predators were able to shut down the Jets and silence their rabid supporters on Tuesday night, but only temporarily. If the Preds can continue to keep that line on the outside, they’ll no doubt have success. With the net still empty, Brandon Tanev, who played hard for every second of the 13 minutes and 38 seconds of icetime he logged, led a rush and scored another empty netter to give the Jets a 7-4 win.
So explain this to me.
That’s about the time the Jets got back-to-back power plays.
The pressure has to shift back onto the Jets.
